TEL AVIV, Israel (NewsNation) — The United States has reportedly submitted a plan to the U.N. Security Council for the establishment of an international stabilization force in the Gaza Strip, a linchpin of President Donald Trump's peace plan for the region.

According to multiple reports, the draft resolution would authorize the force to operate in Gaza through the end of 2027, with the possibility of extensions. The proposal is meant to be negotiated by U.N. Security Council members to determine governance and security of Gaza for at least the next two years, according to a copy obtained by Axios.

Ceasefire still holds as hostages, prisoner exchanges continue

A U.S. official told the outlet that the International Stabilization Force would be an “enforcement force, not a peacekeeping force.” It would include troops from several nations and work alongside a “Gaza Board of Peace” — a new body Trump says he will chair.

The force would be tasked with securing Gaza’s borders with Israel and Egypt, protecting civilians and aid routes, and training a new Palestinian police force, Axios reported. Egypt and Israel would play roles in demilitarizing the enclave.

Trump vows to end Hamas if they don't disarm

Trump has vowed to destroy Hamas if the group does not willingly disarm and has said Hamas will not be permitted to control the enclave.

Hijacking aid distribution has been a means by which Hamas has exerted control over Gazans, and it's still happening, according to a video released by U.S. Central Command.

Hamas hands over more hostage bodies

Meanwhile, the remains of American-Israeli citizen Omer Neutra are back on Israeli soil after being returned by Hamas this week. A native of Long Island, New York, Neutra was killed in the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel that sparked the war.

"Omer's journey, from a New York upbringing to the battlefields of southern Israel, stands as a testament to courage, faith, and the shared destiny of our two nations," said his mother, Orna Neutra. "Omer's return marks the end of our family's long night, but it cannot be the end of our collective mission."

The remains of Itay Chen, an American-Israeli citizen, are still in Gaza. His father is calling on the international community to keep pressure on Hamas to bring his son's body home.
