NEW YORK (WPIX) — The gunman who killed four people in a New York City shooting Monday was the son of a former Los Angeles Police Department officer, according to a spokesperson for the NYPD.

Shane Tamura, 27, of Las Vegas, walked into a Midtown, Manhattan skyscraper on Monday and opened fire, police said.

Tamura was looking for the NFL offices before shooting the victims before taking his own life, authorities said.

NYPD investigators arrived in Las Vegas on Tuesday morning and spoke to people whom they identified as his relatives. Investigators say his father was spoken to, and other members of Tamura's family are being "cooperative."

Police said Tamura had a history of mental illness, and a note found on his body suggested that he had a grievance against the NFL over a claim that he suffered from a degenerative brain disease that can be diagnosed only by examining the brain after a person dies.

The four victims killed by Tamura have been identified as an NYPD officer, a Blackstone executive, a security guard, and a Rudin Management employee.
