(NewsNation) — Jake Haro has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the murder of his 7-month-old son, Emmanuel Haro.
Haro was sentenced Monday, two weeks after changing his plea from not guilty to guilty. He also received a 180-day, six-year, eight-month sentence, which he will serve first in state prison, followed by the 25-year-to-life sentence.
Baby Emmanuel was reported missing Aug. 14. His mother, Rebecca Haro, initially told authorities Emmanuel had been kidnapped as she changed his diaper in the back seat of a car outside of a store. She alleged she was knocked unconscious and woke up to find her son gone.
Emmanuel’s remains have yet to be found. Haro previously pleaded guilty to child cruelty charges in another case involving an infant, but was allowed to remain free on probation.
Haro said he was the “fall guy” regarding a suspended sentence for the separate child abuse case in 2018, allowing him to avoid prison.
He told the Orange County Register he did not abuse his now 7-year-old daughter, Promise Faith.
Promise, whom Jake Haro had with his ex-wife, was 10 weeks old at the time of the abuse. She suffered numerous injuries, leaving her permanently bedridden.
Haro is not eligible for parole and received fines and court fees in excess of $20,000.
