(NewsNation) — The Connecticut woman accused of holding her stepson captive for 21 years in squalid conditions has been allowed access to the stepson’s new identity, address and medical records.

On Friday, a judge granted the request from the defense team of Kimberly Sullivan, who is charged with kidnapping, unlawful restraint, cruelty and reckless endangerment. Attorney Ioannis Kaloidis said his client sought the information on constitutional grounds.

“Every defendant is entitled to know the name and address not only of their accuser but (also) the witnesses,” he told “Banfield” on Friday. “It was the state that was seeking to withhold information. … the judge applied the law appropriately.”

As for the medical records the defense can now obtain, Kaloidis signaled his team is looking to compare the medical information with accusations leveled by authorities. They say Sullivan’s stepson weighed less than 70 pounds in February when first responders rescued him from a fire he claims to have set at the Waterbury home where his stepmother allegedly kept him against his will.

“We’re going to dive into that,” Kaloidis said. “There’s plenty of explanations, potential explanations, as to why he was 68 pounds. What we’re going to have, at trial, is testimony that he had access to food and water and was free to eat and drink every day.”

He added that the defense may not have to explain the stepson’s weight.

The judge also granted a request Friday from prosecutors that the medical records can only be viewed under controlled conditions, in defense attorneys’ offices. The judge denied a defense motion asking that Sullivan's GPS tracker be removed, NBC News reported.

Sullivan is out on bond and has pleaded not guilty. Her next hearing is set for December.

Stepson still unidentified, goes by 'S'

The stepson, now 32, has not been named publicly. Earlier this year, he released a public statement through a nonprofit group, Survivors Say, in which he thanked medical professionals and others for helping him after his ordeal. He referred to himself as “S.”

“I am choosing a new name for myself, and I will use that name as I reclaim control over my life and my future. My name is my choice, and it is the first of many choices I will make for myself now that I am free,” the statement said.
