Green light for new 3.5-km, 6-station transit system linking Kai Tak MTR and cruise terminal along former runway

The Chief Executive in Council has approved the Smart & Green Mass Transit System in Kai Tak (SGMTS-KT), a 3.5-kilometre feeder service linking the former runway to the MTR network.

The SGMTS-KT will feature six stations with terminals at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal and Kai Tak MTR Station.

Tenders were invited in October last year, with commissioning set for 2031.

The project aims at “strengthening connectivity among residential, commercial, tourism, sports and community facilities,” according to a Tuesday government press release.

Other proposed stations include Shing King Street, Kai Tak Sky Garden, Shing Fung Road Park, Kai Tak Sports Park, and Kai Tak Station Square, according to documents gazetted last summer.

The government said that “the franchisee is required to comply with the conditions set out in the environmental permit issued by the Director of Environmental Protection to mitigate the environmental impacts of the works.”
