(NewsNation) — A federal grand jury is preparing to issue more than 30 subpoenas connected to President Donald Trump's allegations that false claims of collusion between him and Russia during the 2016 election were perpetuated by his political enemies, sources within the Department of Justice and the FBI confirmed to NewsNation on Friday.

The subpoenas are part of the investigation into former CIA Director John Brennan's handling of the discredited "Steele dossier" and role in the alleged weaponization of intelligence during the 2016 election assessment, the source said.

Brennan, former FBI Special Agent Peter Strzok and former FBI lawyer Lisa Page have been served subpoenas, a source familiar with the investigation confirmed to NewsNation.

Some subpoenas were issued Thursday with more expected Friday, a source confirmed to NewsNation, though it is unclear who will be receiving them.

The probe is being led by U.S. Attorney Jason Quinones in South Florida, working with senior Justice Department officials in Washington, according to a source familiar with the investigation.

A grand jury has been empaneled in the Southern District of Florida, sources in the FBI and DOJ said, and is set to convene Jan. 12, 2026.

Attorney General Pam Bondi launched the probe into Brennan following a referral from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard after she declassified documents she described as "manufactured intelligence" from Obama-era officials to overthrow Trump.

The DOJ and White House declined to comment for this story.
