(NewsNation) — Arkansas State police have captured the suspect who allegedly killed a couple in Devil's Den State Park last weekend.

James Andrew McGann, 28, was arrested Wednesday.

"I’m extremely grateful for the long hours and dedication that our Agents put forward in bringing justice to this family," said Mike Hagar, Arkansas State Police.

"The collaboration between state police, other state and local law enforcement agencies and our federal partners has been second to none."

Couple killed were hiking with daughters

Police in Arkansas and the FBI had been searching for days after Clinton David Brink and Cristen Amanda Brink were found dead Saturday on a walking trail with their daughters at Devil’s Den.

Their daughters, who are 7 and 9, were not hurt and are safe with family members.

The family had just moved from South Dakota to the small city of Prairie Grove in northwest Arkansas, and their water had been connected less than two weeks ago, Mayor David Faulk said.

Clinton Brink had been scheduled to start a job as a milk delivery driver in the nearby Fayetteville area, according to Hiland Dairy, his employer.

“No news can heal the enormous harm done to the Brink family in last weekend’s crime, but this announcement is a comfort and reassurance for our State. I am so proud of the Arkansas State Police, Park Rangers, local law enforcement, and others who have worked nonstop since last weekend to capture this suspect," Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee said in a statement.

Fellow couple received 'death stare' from McGann

A couple who were on the same trail as the Brinks told Tony Brueski, an investigative podcaster, they possibly made contact with McGann.

“The couple was together with a brother and sister and a pet dog, and down the trail, they saw a man coming their way, and they immediately found him to be odd,” Brueski said.

“He was by himself. But the way he was in full black attire from top to bottom and on a mission, it seemed, wearing a large mesh backpack, that was very out of place.”

Along with the couple who believe they saw McGann, others said they saw the man’s car had duct tape over the license plate on his vehicle.

McGann was charged with two counts of capital murder.
