Antonio Brown arrested on attempted murder charge

(NewsNation) — Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown has been extradited from Dubai and is in police custody as he faces a murder charge.

Brown was brought back to the U.S. and was booked into Essex County Jail in New Jersey on Thursday, according to NBC Miami.

Brown is accused of attempted murder dating back to a celebrity boxing event in South Florida in May. He is reportedly being extradited to Miami from New Jersey.

The 37-year-old is accused of grabbing a handgun from a security staffer and firing two shots at a man he had gotten into a fistfight with earlier. The victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told investigators one of the bullets had grazed his neck.

The second-degree attempted murder charge carries a maximum 15-year prison sentence and up to a $10,000 fine.

Brown has had constant legal troubles and has previously been accused of battery of a moving truck driver, several domestic violence charges, failure to pay child support and other incidents.

The six-time All-Pro and Super Bowl champion played 12 seasons in the NFL, beginning in Pittsburgh in 2008. He was briefly a member of the Oakland Raiders, without playing a game, before playing with the New England Patriots and finishing his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
